Topic & Abstract

Converging technological innovations into Medicine

AIMS: To explore the concept of next-generation technologies in health and care, highlighting the role of convergence science in offering the strongest route to translational healthcare outcomes across the whole sector.

BACKGROUND:

The world is facing multiple health challenges that range from an epidemic of non-communicable diseases that have a global impact at a scale comparable to infectious diseases, whilst concurrently there is an increased awareness of previously overlooked conditions such as mental health conditions. Their emergence in the era of big data and the 4th Industrial Revolution offer unique opportunities for health care delivery. Despite the increased availability of disease data and analytical capability there still remains a need to integrate our approaches to address global health challenges.

DESIGN and METHODS:

A discursive analysis of game-changing global health technologies.

CONCLUSIONS:

This piece examines the role of convergence technologies as a solution to our current and future health care needs. Here at the intersection of classical medicine, computer science, robotics and artificial intelligence we can better anticipate diseases and offer more targeted precision responses to individuals and global populations.
