Intersection of social media, AI and politics
AI is at the root of some of the most interesting and important political and policy conversations that will happen in the near future. In elections we are starting to see advanced modeling techniques used to target which voters to talk to, how to talk to them, and we’re starting to see it being used in both positive and negative ways. We’re also starting to see the potential for deep fakes to skew the political narrative, while other people train systems to detect bots and others on social networks. In the policy world, we’re seeing algorithms making unchecked decisions -- everything from helping people hire, to helping sentence people to prison -- all with skewed data sets that are not representing people. We, at the forefront of AI, need to start determining guidelines and frameworks to make sure we continue to develop technologies in an ethical way that benefits humanity.
