As the director he is involved in activities ranging from daily tactical to global strategical. Dr. Varzhapetyan holds PhD in Laser Physics, has more than 10 years of experience in engineering and project management in the field of telecommunications and systems engineering.

Environment simulator for automotive Lidars

Self-driving car is a Holy Grail of modern car industry. Along with camera and Radar, Lidar is an invaluable imaging tool which plays an important role in integrated intelligent systems for highly automated vehicles. Ensuring correct functioning of the sensors as well as testing developed software is of great importance due to high safety standards of the industry.

Our unique product (SimLas) can efficiently and reproducibly simulate arbitrary environment for automotive scanning Lidars. This enables engineers to test and calibrate the Lidars in fully deterministic conditions in the Lab during the development phase. Due to its high stability and reliability SimLas can also be used to optimize the autocalibration strategies in dynamical environment.

The SimLas is based on over-the-air principle and works with real Lidar sensors. It receives the optical pulse from Lidar and generates an echo pulse or multiple echo pulses which are sent back to the receiver of the Lidar. It can in real time simulate reflections from different distances and surfaces to deterministically mimic real world.

Potential applications of our system also include traffic simulation for automotive Lidar sensors.
