Armen Derkevorkian is a principal investigator and a technical staff member at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He has multidisciplinary educational background, including a master’s degree in structural engineering and electrical engineering, a graduate certificate in violin performance, and a PhD in civil engineering from the University of Southern California (USC), where he was a Viterbi Doctoral Fellow. Armen is the recipient of the JPL Voyager Award for outstanding technical achievement, and the JPL Discovery Award for proposing an innovative data-driven approach for modeling complex spaceflight hardware. His research interests include “smart” structures, non-linear system identification, computational modeling, and data interpretation. As a professional violinist, Armen is a member of the Verbier Festival Orchestras in Switzerland since 2009 and regularly performs with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Dr. Derkevorkian served on the board of the AGBU Pasadena-Glendale Chapter, where he founded a series of cultural events - Celebration of Survival, in commemoration of the centennial of the Armenian Genocide.
