Dr. James Chavin joined Teza Capital Management as President in 2022. Prior to Teza, James spent 17 years at

McKinsey & Co, including eight as a Senior Partner, during which time he led McKinsey’s Restructuring and

Transformation Practice in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia, serving both creditors and debtors in Chapter

11 and out-of-court processes. He has an extensive experience in rapidly transforming companies end to end. James

also spent seven years as an analyst, portfolio manager and founding member of global macro, long and long-short

hedge funds (1994-2000, 2007-2008), four years as a product director at Motorola (2003-07) and two years as

Central Asian and then Russian program officer for the National Democratic Institute (1992-1994). James also

served as an elected member of the Glencoe (Illinois) School District Board of Education (2011-2012) and founded

and ran the Glencoe School Math Club (2007-2012). James is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has an

M.A. / Ph.D. in Political Science from University of California at Berkeley (1996) and a B.A. degree in Political

Science from Stanford University (1989).
